There
are thousands of different vines over the world, but only a relative
few are used for wine production. We have the Romans to thank for
the Riesling vine, this vine plays a very important role in the
production of German wine.
The oldest known vine is the Gutedel, this was grown in Egypt
about 5000 years ago. We have the Romans to thank for their know
how in the cultivation of good vine yards and Chrisopher Columbus
to thank for bringing the vines to America from his varied travels.
The oldest and most famous types of vine suitable for the production
