Nutrients and vitamins

Cooking methodsNutrients and vitamins play a very important role in our diet. Without their regular input, we can’t stay healthy, or recover quickly from illnesses. Nutrients are to be found in most foods in varying quantities. Vitamins are for the most part in fruit and vegetables, which should be eaten regularly. Vitamins and nutrients are also to be found in milk and milk products, meat, fish and mineral water.

Our daily intake of nutrients should be made up of approximately 60-65% carbohydrate, 30% fat and 10-15% protein. Therefore we should try and eat plenty of carbohydtrate rich food and be careful with our protein and fat intake.

There are more than 20 different vitamins, whereby every vitamin has one or more different functions to fulfil our dietery needs. Vitamins are in our bodies to help breakdown nutrients, minerals and carbohydrates that we need, they also help store minerals in our bones and protect against infection. Special vitamins are resposible for skin and hair and others like vitamin C are there to help our bodies fight off viruses and bacteria.
