The manufacture of wine.

wineFor those of us who are very interested in wine, and would like to have a cellar full of good quality wine without having to sell our house or car, because a good wine it would seem is very expensive, especially the bordeaux wines, the best tip we can give is to start with Riesling or Chardonnay wines.
The famous Rieslings aren’t only now to be found in Germany in the Rheingau and Mosel regions. Wachau in Austria now produces an excellent Riesling wine.
The choices of good rieslings is enormous, the taste is wonderful and even the best of the best is affordable to most people.
Wine is best kept in a cool, dark cellar on wine shelfs, the ideal temperatue is about 12°C and not too dry air. In countries such as Germany, where most houses are still built with cellars, this is ideal, for those of us without, a little more difficult. When funds allow, a wine fridge could be bought, these have enough room for about 200 bottles of wine, the temperature then, can be perfectly regulated and the wine will always be kept dark, as light is not good.
You might just surprise yourself however, after you have begin, at how it doesn’t take too long to find yourself with a few bottles of good Bordeaux!

If you are lucky enough to have a good cellar, that is the right temperature, please be careful. Wines that can be stored for a long time, are not improved with the smell of diesel oil and potatoes that are also being stored in the same place!

With a riesling wine, there is also the added advantage that you don’t need to wait too long before the wine has reached its best time to be enjoyed. For a good bordeaux, it can take years (of patience!) before the wine has reached perfection.
Of course, everyone has a different taste, some people find a riesling at its best when very young, for others a few months storage can only improve the flavour. Each to his own!

A really good corkscrew is very important, a half broken cork left in a bottle is more than a little annoying, and huffing and puffing for 10 minutes to get a bottle open, also spoils the fun somewhat! Good quality wine glasses are also rather important, wine is a treat and it shouldn’t be spoilt by chipped, cloudy, thick glasses. You don’t have to spend a fortune, just shop around a little before buying. For really good information about wine, the Johnson magazine is very good, a new magazine is printed every year with loads of helpful information.
